Overview

Rio Perdido is a 1,500-acre private reserve in a pristine region of Guanacaste; a singular destination for wellness seekers and adventure buffs alike. At the heart of the reserve there is a high bluff, flanked by two deep river canyons.

One of these affluents is the thermal Rio Perdido, with its multiple hot springs, all with medicinal-grade water. The other is the Rio Blanco, with steep, monolithic walls; the setting for several adventure activities at Rio Perdido. Guests can spend days soaking in the picturesque springs, hiking through the unique dwarf forest, or simply gazing at the Guanacaste Volcanic Sierra, with views of up to 5 distinct volcanoes and 360-degree sweeps of the breathtaking Miravalles canyonlands.

For the more adventurous, there are countless miles of marked trailsfor mountain biking and trail running.
Signature on-site activities include white-water tubing on along the exhilarating Rio Blanco, the classic Canyon Adventure, and guided MTB rides on Costa Rica’s best singletrack.

Our new forest spa is conceptualized to invoke the highest level of peace, emphasizing the unique natural beauty of the setting. And of course, the three categories of accommodations: The East Bungalows are the original, modern yet cozy units that line the edge of the thermal canyon.

The Center Bungalows are sleek, crafted from volcanic rock, singed wood, and black steel. The dark materials and giant windows make it feel like you are immersed in the forest.

The West Bungalows are the newest units (opening by October 01st, 2024); these combine the best of modern luxury with sustainable design. These eight bungalows line the western edge of the “Rio Perdido peninsula”, where you can always feel and hear the roar of the Rio Blanco.

Food is a top priority for us; it is what fuels our spirit and gives us strength. We have a new, twoacre, 100% organic garden that provides much of our vegetables, herbs and fruits.

There we also have hives of two native bee species that provide us with honey, like you’ve never tried before.

One of these species is the Jicote Gato, which is the sacred bee of the Mayas and is depicted in their art.

The honey has very elevated concentrations of antioxidants, beyond what you’ll find in
honey from traditional European bees.

Our kitchen is led by very talented local chefs, that bring you truly authentic local cuisine.

They respect traditional roots and skillfully offer us refreshing twists with locally harvested flavors.

Also crucial to the gastronomy at Rio Perdido are the beverages. Rio Perdido offers its guests the best specialty coffees (and among the few truly organic grain in the region), cocktails that truly stand apart from what the mixology world is doing, infusions from our own herbs and fruits

Services

A stay at Rio Perdido includes a delicious a-la-carte breakfast, a guided hike, and morning yoga.

Guests have unlimited access to the reserve, its amazing trail network, and of course, the thermal river, with its dozens of completely natural, hot river pools.

There are a dozen unique activities
within the property. All of these can be tailored and made private. The popular Canyon Adventure boasts America’s first carbon fiber ziplines, multiple via ferratas, swings, hanging bridges, and pendulums.

Guests love the White-Water Tubing, as our Rio Blanco is a nature’s water slide (this activity operates about 9 months of the year, as it is subject to safe current / weather conditions).

Mountain biking on the RP network is said to be the best of the region.

There is a new fleet of 10 Ibis and Santa Cruz trail bikes, so avid riders can get the most of the experience.

We prepare and pack gourmet picnics so you can trek out to any of a dozen amazing destinations, including several look out points offering epic sunsets… or sunrises, for the early risers. Our new spa (scheduled to open by September 2024) has 4 separate treatment casitas,
nestled in the forest, as well as a beautiful reception bungalow
